| Bòrd na Gàidhlig Chairman accepts new position | |
| 01 July 2008
The Chairman of Bòrd na Gàidhlig, Matthew M MacIver CBE, is stepping down and moving to a new role within the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). Matthew, who retires in September as the Chief Executive/Registrar of the General Teaching Council for Scotland, has accepted the offer of a Professorship with the UHI. He commented: “This is an enormous opportunity for me to contribute to the development of Gaelic in a very different way. After much reflection on the future direction of my personal and public life I have decided to accept the offer of a Professorship in Gaelic Education with pride. It is this new opportunity that will drive forward my continuing contribution to Gaelic in the coming years. “Moreover, as Bòrd na Gàidhlig moves into the next phase of its development I feel this is the right time to allow a new Chair to take the Bòrd forward. I am very proud of the work that the Bòrd has achieved thus far as the statutory body for Gaelic in Scotland and I shall continue to watch its work and continued successes with close interest.” | |
