New Grants for Gaelic Community Projects
12 An t-Samhain 2007

Bòrd na Gàidhlig is inviting funding applications for projects that strengthen the learning and use of Gaelic amongst young people and in the home.

The awards, which will be no greater than £2,500 each, will help the delivery of the first National Plan for Gaelic. The total value of the fund is £50,000.

Bòrd Development Manager, Donald Morrison said:

“There are many smaller organisations and community groups throughout the country doing important and in some cases lifeline work for Gaelic.

“This fund is to help them develop new and innovative projects that will help strengthen the learning and use of Gaelic in the community but particularly in the home and among young people.

“Although the individual awards will be relatively small, we know from previous experience that this kind of money can make a huge difference to groups running small, community based projects.

“We look forward to receiving applications that help towards the delivery of the National Plan for Gaelic.”

  • Projects should focus on strengthening Gaelic in the home and among young people
  • Applications must be submitted by 10th December 2007
  • Applications should be no greater than £2,500

Previous Bòrd na Gàidhlig funding schemes have supported community-based initiatives such as Castlebay Parent & Toddler group for playgroup materials, the Scottish Childminding Association to enhance Gaelic childminding provision, Ionad Loch a Tuath for out of school events for young people, Fèis na h-Òige for a series of creative workshops for teenagers and North Lanarkshire Council for a family learning group.
