Structure
There are seven board members and a chair on Bòrd na Gàidhlig and the chair is the main link between the Bòrd and the Scottish Executive. The Bòrd and the chair are responsible for making sure that the aims and remit of Bòrd na Gàidhlig are being fulfilled effectively. The members and the chair are responsible for creating a good relationship between the Bòrd and other organisations who have an interest in the language, between the Bòrd and Gaelic communities, and between the Bòrd and other appropriate groups and individuals.
The employees of Bòrd na Gàidhlig work in order to help fulfil the responsibilities given in the Gaelic Act and implement the aims of the Bòrd. Staff also support the Bòrd. The Chief Executive of Bòrd na Gàidhlig is ultimately responsible for all staff matters.
Policies
Among the policies which Bòrd na Gàidhlig operates are: a Gaelic Policy, a Recruitment Policy and an Equal Opportunities Policy. Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s Gaelic Policy gives guidance on how the use of Gaelic and other languages is dealt with within the work of the organisation. The other policies ensure that Bòrd na Gàidhlig encourages equal opportunities in its work, and that the Bòrd is a good employer with good employees as a result.
