Gaelic Debate Programme - Centre of the Matter

Tern Television are filming faith-based discussion programmes in Gaelic, to be recorded in Inverness and Glasgow. These will be lively debates between a panel of Gaels, chaired by presenter, Derek Mackay in front of small audiences, who will be welcome to put questions to the panellists.

Minister for Gaelic launches Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Gaelic Language Plan

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar was one of the first national organisations to have its Gaelic Language Plan endorsed by Bòrd nan Gàidhlig. Culture Minister Linda Fabiani launched the Comhairle’s Gaelic Plan whilst on an official tour of the Western Isles and also announced a Gaelic conference which will be jointly organised by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Bòrd na Gàidhlig on the 12th of September in Lewis.

Gaelic on Board 2008

The highly successful "Gàidhlig air a’ Bhàta” (Gaelic on Board) project is back again this year and is working alongside The Gaelic Rings initiative. Information Officers will be on board the ferries making the Oban/Coll/Tiree, Tiree/Barra, Uig/Lochmaddy/Tarbert and the Ullapool/Stornoway crossings.

Success for Gaelic Students

14 students have this week successfully completed Part 1 of the Ùlpan Gaelic Course at Lews Castle College. This course, devised by Deiseal Ltd, based on the Welsh model, uses innovative language learning methods to bring students to fluency in Gaelic. The Ùlpan course was supported by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar with funding from Bòrd na Gàidhlig

More public bodies to prepare Gaelic Language Plans as two new plans launched

A total of six more public bodies have been notified by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, to prepare Gaelic Language Plans.

The announcement was made in the Scottish Parliament by Minister for Gaelic, Linda Fabiani. The news comes as Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Argyll and Bute Council launch their newly approved Gaelic Language Plans.

Celtic & Scots Languages ‘Eurovision’ To Attract Worldwide Audience

Inverness is set to host the regional final of a prestigious new European singing competition which will attract an internet audience from around the world. Nòs Ùr, meaning 'new style' in Gaelic, is a Celtic and Scots language competition based on the Eurovision Song Contest format.

Blas Festival Launches 2008 Cultural Programme

 

The fastest growing Gaelic and traditional music festival in the UK is about to take to the skies as part of its new programme for 2008. Now a notable fixture on Scotland’s cultural calendar, the Blas Festival has announced it will be staging 45 events across the Highlands, including its ‘highest ever show’ in its smallest ‘venue’ – a Cessna plane flying at 3000 feet over the region.
